A family of Cedar Waxwings visited my home yesterday. They are very sociable and always travel in family groups. When you see one Cedar Waxwing, you will see 8 or 10. I called my daughter out to see them, and she was singularly unimpressed, so I showed Billy, and he enjoyed seeing them.
How do you teach someone to enjoy beauty, to stop, and just enjoy the sight of something somewhat rare and beutiful which happens to pass by? You can focus, concentrate and get the job done while the world passes by, or you can admire the fleeting glimpse we get. For about fifteen minutes, my yard was bright, colorful and filled with the sounds of a family of cedar waxwings, then it went back to being a human abode, with a teenage daughter listening to rap, and a son listening to Invader Zim.
Human sounds, focued and self absorbed. Sometimes, it has a quality of its own, but only when you realize it is not the only thing there is.
