"You," said Dr. Yavitch, "are a middle-road liberal, and you haven't the slightest idea what you want. I, being a revolutionist, know exactly what I want - and what I want right now is a drink" ~~ Sinclair Lewis ~~

Any one who knows me already knows what I think of Civil Unions and Marriage. But, for those of you who dont, here's a quick recap. I support Civil Unions. I do not support Marriage. I believe the state should recognize marriage as a civil union. Marriage is a religious compact, not a social compat. The government has been recognizing the religious compact for far too long. It's time to start addressing this obvious intrusion of religion into Govt. This can happen through the concept of Civil Unions. This way, any church can feel free to marry anyone they want, and when it's done, they submit it to the state as a civil union. If you dont want to have a church ceremony, you have whatever ceremony you want, and submit it to the state as a civil union. CT Gov Joins Backers Of Same-Sex Civil Unions
Gov. M. Jodi Rell endorsed the concept of civil unions for same-sex couples Tuesday, adding to the momentum building behind the gay-rights measure.
"I don't believe in discrimination of any sort, and I want people to have equal rights and equal opportunities," Rell said.
Rell's position appears to place her in the mainstream of political opinion in her own state party. All three Republican members of the Connecticut congressional delegation support civil unions for same-sex couples.
Connecticut would be the first state to allow civil unions without the threat of court intervention. I'm pround to live in a state that cares enough about its citizens to provide a mechanism for people to create whatever family they want to have.
