In today's examination of balanced journalism, we will examine a story from the Reuters news service. The news story concerns an action of the Supreme Court. They voted to eliminate the death penalty for Juveniles. Most people would consider this to be something that should have happened a long time ago. Now we've finally peeked out from the dark ages and observed that the rest of the world doesn't kill children. The balance to the story should have been the rest of the world, and how we have, in a small way, become just a little bit more civilized.
But Reuters choose to balance the story by contrasting the Supreme Court decision with some cro-magnon they found lurking in the depths of Texas who seems to want to go back into the caves and use clubs for justice. Reuters put America straight back into the ranks of the uncivilized, by giving a platform to yet another sun-baked false prophet.
WASHINGTON - A closely divided Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that it's unconstitutional to execute juvenile killers, ending a practice in 19 states that has been roundly condemned by many of America's closest allies.
"It is proper that we acknowledge the overwhelming weight of international opinion against the juvenile death penalty, resting in large part on the understanding that the instability and emotional imbalance of young people may often be a factor in the crime," he wrote.
Dianne Clements, president of the Houston-based Justice for All victims' advocacy group, criticized the decision and said she hopes that when there is a Supreme Court vacancy a strong death penalty supporter is nominated.
"The Supreme Court has opened the door for more innocent people to suffer by 16 and 17 year olds," she said. "I can't wait for the Supreme Court to have judges more concerned with American values, American statutes and American law than what the Europeans think."
I have to agree with Dianne. Fuck the Europeans. Lets kill some kids. You know, those nasty little brats who are always causing trouble. Those damn kids are always doing something. Not one of them is innocent. What the hell, c'mon Diane, lets start with yours...
But why stop there? We can still kill the grandparents for spoiling them, and the school teachers for miseducating them, and what about those dreaded people that everyone hates, the In-Law's. Yeah, we gotta lotta people we can kill. We're gonna be busy. C'mon Diane, I'm with ya. We can wait for the kids. They'll grow up. Then we'll get 'um. The Bastards!
